Aegon Iii Targaryen

King Aegon III Targaryen: The Dragonbane

Early Life and Reign

King Aegon III Targaryen, also known as Aegon the Dragonbane, was the seventh ruler of the Targaryen dynasty. He ascended to the Iron Throne of Westeros in 131 AC at the tender age of 10, following the death of his father, King Viserys I Targaryen.

Due to his youth, Aegon III's reign was marked by a regency period that lasted until he reached adulthood in 136 AC. During this time, the realm was engulfed in political turmoil, with various factions vying for power and influence.

The Dance of Dragons

Aegon III's reign coincided with the end of the Dance of Dragons, a civil war that had torn the Targaryen family apart. He played a pivotal role in negotiating the peace terms that ended the conflict and helped restore some semblance of stability to Westeros.

Aegon the Dragonbane

Aegon III earned the moniker "Dragonbane" for his actions in the Dance of Dragons. During the final battle of the war, he rode his dragon, Stormcloud, and used its flames to kill the remaining dragons loyal to his rivals. This act effectively extinguished the Targaryen dragons, which had once been a symbol of their reign.

The Regency and Beyond

Once he reached adulthood, Aegon III assumed full control of his kingdom. His reign was marked by a desire for peace and reconciliation. He sought to heal the wounds inflicted by the civil war and unite the realm under his rule.

Aegon III Targaryen passed away in 171 AC at the age of 49. His legacy as Aegon the Dragonbane continues to be remembered in the annals of Westerosi history.
