A large apartment fire in south Charlotte has caused an estimated $850,000 in damages and displaced approximately 30 people. Firefighters responded to the blaze shortly after midnight on Thursday, and it took several hours to fully extinguish the fire.
Officials are still investigating the cause of the fire, but they believe it started in one of the apartments. No injuries were reported, but several families lost their homes and belongings. The Red Cross is providing assistance to those who have been displaced.
In a separate incident, parents in east Charlotte have been charged after their 4-year-old child was accidentally shot. The shooting occurred on Wednesday evening, and the child was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
